Week 10!

This week, we will be practicing writing Write Longs for our reading response.  Please make a claim about one of the following and support it with 3 pieces of text evidence and support.  Remember to close it out with an opinion or reflection.

Week 8!

Choose an independent reading book and write a summary of the book.  Keep in mind that good summaries just state the facts of what the book is about without giving their opinion. Be sure to reference the rubric this week to help you with your response.

Week 7!

Choose a pourquoi tale that we read in class.  What is the theme of this pourquoi.  Be sure to support you answer with text evidence.  Using the write long format may be helpful.  

Week 6

Choose a character from your independent reading book and determine whether they are the protagonist (good character) or antagonist (bad character) in the story. Use text evidence to support your thinking. (Hint: Doing this in a write long format will help).

Week 5!

This week, please find a non fiction article (in scholastic news or online) and apply some of the in class strategies we have learned for reading the article.  Below, summarize the main idea of one section using important text evidence as your support.  Please bring in the article with you, I will look at it when we conference about your response.  

Week 4!

How does the setting in the story affect the characters? 

Sample: The story Wonder is set in a private school Beecher Prep.  In this story, this setting has a very big affect on the main character, August.  August has never been to a public school so he is learning to adjust to his new surroundings and the people in it.  In the text, it talks about August visiting the new school.  August asks a question about what homeroom is.  He says, "Um, what exactly is homeroom, is it like a subject?" I know from my own life that if you've gone to school, you would know what homeroom is, but since August is adjusting, he does not.  August is very brave to be facing this new setting.  I'm hoping that he adjusts as the story continues.
